종이가루, 또는 종이 꽃가루(영어: Confetti)는 축하행사, 행진, 또는 공연 등에서 던져서 뿌리거나 분사하기 위해 흩날리기 쉽게 만든 작은 종이나 폴리에터 필름 등으로 구성된 작은 조각들이다. 색깔을 입히기도 한다. 표준국어대사전에서는 꽃가루라고도 표기하고 있다^[1]. 일본에서는 종이 눈보라(일본어: 紙吹雪 (かみふぶき) 카미후부키^[*])라고도 한다.

개요

현대의 종이가루는 선종교 시대부터 시작되어 온 오래된 관습로서 역사를 통틀어 다양한 문화들에서 이어져온 전통인, 특별한 때 쌀이나 사탕 등을 던지던 상징적인 의식에서 비롯되었다. 이 의식이 시간이 지나면서 던지는 물품이 종이로 바뀐 것이다.

종이가루는 다양한 색상으로 만들어졌으며, 다양한 형태의 종이가루가 현재 시판되고 있다. 이중에서 빛나는 색깔의 종이가루도 있고, 메탈 PVC로 제조된 '메탈 종이가루'도 있다. 하지만 1mm도 되지 않는 크기를 가지고 있고, 일반적으로 빛나는 반짝이가루(glitter)와는 분명하게 차이가 난다.

For larger venues or volumes of confetti, a venturi air mover powered by carbon dioxide is used to propel significantly larger volumes of confetti greater distances.
